Using Geometry in Engineering

Wed 28 November 2018

Trinity College

Professor Joan Lasenby was one of the first cohort of female undergraduates at Trinity in 1978, where she read Mathematics. Her PhD was in Radio and Molecular Studies at the Cavendish Laboratory. She has held posts at Louisiana State University, Trinity Hall and Newnham College, Cambridge, and was elected a Fellow of Trinity in 2001. In this event Professor Lasenby will consider the role of geometry in
engineering, in particular the usefulness of geometric algebra in the industry.

Professor Lasenby's lecture, "Using Geometry in Engineering", will look at a range of applications of geometry in engineering, including: computer vision, computer graphics and structural engineering. It will also make connections with the mathematics of a former Trinity Fellow (1868-1871), William Kingdon Clifford.
