Talk by Zachary Beer

Mon 17 November 2014

Clare Hall

Zachary Beer's vibrant paintings explore flora and biochemical processes.

The ‘Element’ exhibition at Clare Hall will present the most wide-ranging collection of Beer’s works to date, with over 30 works on show.

The paintings, all oil, figure the natural world at different scales.
Velvet darkness, intense colours, and deep layering of paint draw the eye far in.

The works reveal processes held beneath the surface that our eyes can scan, and they take us into the intimate life of the natural world around us: flowers almost lost in darkness, the intricate tangle of hedgerows, electron transport chains, protein folding, volcanoes, and magnified internal images of meteorites.

Hedgerows and optogenetics are equally at home here.
