This seminar will attempt to look at the pictorial trajectory of the tawa’if over a century and a half and across paintings, photographs and even matchbox labels produced and distributed in colonial Awadh and Delhi. (Ayesha Matthan, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi)
