Silent Signal + Blister Cinema interactive installation

Thu 2 June 2016 - Thu 1 September 2016

Wellcome Genome Campus Cultural Zone

Come to see Silent Signal, an exhibition of experimental animated artworks in the Cultural Zone at the Wellcome Genome Campus. Devised by Animate Projects, Silent Signal is an ambitious group exhibition that unites six artists with six biomedical scientists to create artworks exploring new ways of thinking about the human body.

Silent Signal takes you on a journey: starting at the microcosm of the infection-fighting internal landscape of our cells, through the personal experiences and opinions of individuals and scientists, to the application of the research in the wider world of infectious disease modelling and genome sequencing.

On Thursday 1 September there will be a one-off interactive installation - Blister Cinema – accompanying one of the films in the Silent Signal programme. You will be able to take part in the battle between bacteria and immune cells inside a human blister!

Imagine this: Seeking to devour your blood, a horsefly rips through your skin leaving behind a trail of nasty invaders. Your defence system springs into action, forming a blister and flooding the area with various bacteria-eating cells. The health of the host is at stake: Will the infection take over or will the immune cells restore normality?
Using Kinect sensors the audience is put right inside the action and the inflammation is simulated through a series of microbial micro-games.

Come along to the September First Thursday and Kinect with the installation!

The venue bar will also be open for you to enjoy a drink.
