Enslaved! A history of slavery through the ages

Tue 25 February 2014 - Tue 25 March 2014

Institute of Continuing Education

The role of slavery is very well known in some eras but is almost entirely ignored in others. What remains constant is the fact that the practice of slavery continued.

On this weekly course at Madingley Hall, we will draw upon case studies from the last 2,000 years, starting with the Roman Empire and ending with the Third Reich.

25 February: Slave labour in WWII (Dr Gilly Carr)
4 March: Slavery and the American Civil War (Dr Mike Sewell)
11 March: Barbary slavery (Dr Justin Meggitt)
18 March: The Viking slave trade (Dr Britt Baillie)
25 March: Slavery in the Roman Empire (Dr Justin Meggitt)

This course will be supported by our virtual learning environment (VLE). You will be able to download course material, contact your tutor and talk to fellow students via the web at a time and place that’s convenient to you.

Cost: £150
