The Impact of New Technology on Transport Planning

Please note: this event has been CANCELLED

Wed 14 March 2018

Mill Lane Lecture Rooms

Transport planning and land use planning are intimately connected and transport planning is based on a well-tested and sophisticated set of techniques. However the world of transport is expected to change more in the next ten or twenty years than it has in the last century: are transport planners, and the tools they use, ready for the changes ahead? This seminar will look at some of the changes that technology will bring to transport such as Electrification, Connectivity and Automation and ask what how planners might need to change their thinking to accommodate them.

Paul Campion is the CEO of the Transport Systems Catapult. He took over this role in July 2017. Previously he successfully ran various businesses for IBM, working at UK, European and Worldwide level based, variously, in London, Paris, New York and Zurich. His experience in transforming companies, large and small, with the application of technology is directly relevant to the challenge of helping to grow UK business and employment by translating the UK’s world-leading research into commercial innovation.
