Festival of the voice gala concert
Sat 3 May 2014
Trinity College
The final concert in the Festival of the Voice epitomises the 40 years of The Hilliard Ensemble’s outstanding achievement. We bring together three generations of vocal ensembles, in a programme which crosses the ages and geographical borders. The dynamic new ensemble Eo Nomine sings Wilbye, Tomkins, Monteverdi, Gesualdo and Schütz. Singer Pur offer a Festival first with music by Brahms, Sting, and Cole Porter. amarcord sing Jean Cras and join The Hilliard Ensemble in a work by Roger Marsh; and we hear Japanese folksongs by Toshio Hosokawa. The climax of the Festival comes when conductor Sarah Tennant-Flowers directs a performance of Orlando Gough’s Hand over Hand, given by all four vocal ensembles.
