Gropius' Impington, power and space, art and the rural
Sat 24 October 2015 - Sun 1 November 2015
Impington Village College
The exhibition is the result of the research artist Elena Cologni conducted as part of a residency at Impington Village College, and through workshops, adopting an ‘art as interface in society through dialogue’ approach. This contributes to the 75th anniversary of the only British publicly funded building by Walter Gropius. The modernist building’s use by the rural community (e.g. agricultural workers migrating to the area in 1930’s) in relation to how issues of power can be embodied in space informed a series of workshops, and the resulting artworks in the grounds of the building. The work done is also contextualised by theoretician Cristina Bogdan's specially commissioned virtual reading, which can be activated on site, unlocking new dimensions.
This is funded through the Grants for the Arts, Arts Council England, supported by Impington Village College 75th Anniversary Festival, Cambridge Central Library Collections.
