Historic Environment: managing land and water in the peat fens before 1300
Sat 21 February 2015
Institute of Continuing Education
At this day school you will explore the interplay between ancient tradition and medieval lordship in managing people and landscape in Cambridgeshire's peat fens before about 1300. What was the role of peasant cultivators and of monastic houses in their medieval management? Did bishops and abbots really tame a 'wide wilderness' after about 970 or was the landscape already carefully controlled by that date?
Tea, coffee and a light sandwich lunch are included in the price.
Cost: £75
