Half-term fun - Hidden Lives: A Story of Discovery
Sat 21 October 2017
Wellcome Genome Campus
Join us for half-term family fun at the Hidden Lives exhibition!
Dig for artefacts like an archaeologist, extract DNA from fruit, and find out about the people who lived in our area thousands of years ago.
There will be fun for everyone!
The Hidden Lives exhibition at the Wellcome Genome Campus displays the remains of the some of the individuals found at excavations onsite over the last 25 years, alongside artefacts that help us understand what sort of lives people led on the banks of the River Cam thousands of years ago.
These discoveries offered the exciting opportunity to apply the scientific speciality of the Campus to these ancient remains. Researchers were able to extract DNA and then sequence the skeletons’ genome, the unique genetic code carried by all living things. Visit the exhibition and discover what this genetic analysis revealed about the population of the East of England in the Iron Age and Anglo-Saxon period – and what this shows us about the population today.
