Java Minute Lecture Series: Helena Andres AI and Deep Learning, shedding some light upon that big scary “black box”

Wed 6 March 2019

Newnham College

Many debates have been raised recently around the power and threats of AI and Machine Learning, but do you actually know how do they work? What is it that makes these techniques so powerful and mysterious? What is even the difference between AI and Machine Learning?

In this talk Helena Andres will give an overview of what Neural Networks are, how and what we can use them for. She will also explain some of their applications, from image recognition to generating artificial DNA. If time allows, she will show some of the research developed by her group in the Computer Laboratory (AI and Computational Biology) using Supervised, Unsupervised, Reinforcement or Conditional Learning among others with biological and medical data.
