Magic has been a constant, controversial, and elusive element of human life from antiquity to the present, an object of both fascination and fear. In this weekly course at Madingley Hall we will explore some of the ways magic has been understood and used in a range of historical and cultural contexts.

4 March: From Circe to cynicism: magic in antiquity (Dr Justin Meggitt)
11 March: Fairy tales and magic realism: a history of magic in stories (Dr Jenny Bavidge)
18 March: Magical thinking: how love, grief and obsession transform everday life (Dr Jenny Bavidge)
25 March: The triumph of the moon? The revival of modern magick (Dr Justin Meggitt)
This course will be supported by our virtual learning environment (VLE). You will be able to download course material, contact your tutor and talk to fellow students via the web at a time and place that’s convenient to you.
