“Hospitality – Food for Thought”

Speakers: Brian Turner CBE and David Morgan-Hewitt

The event is run in conjunction with the Cooks' Company of London and is held every year with a variety of speakers. The subject is "Hospitality - Food for Thought" and the speakers are Brian Turner CBE who is a well-known TV chef, a successful restaurant owner and a member of the UK Skills Board. The other speaker is David Morgan-Hewitt who is Managing Director of The Goring, London's oldest family owned five star deluxe hotel (and it is where Kate Middleton and her family stayed the night before the Royal Wedding).

Profile of Brian Turner CBE
Brian Turner is one of Britain's most successful and well-known chefs. His successes include as Chef de Cuisine at the Michelin starred Capital Hotel for 11 years from 1975. In 1986 Turner opened his own restaurant 'Turner's', in Knightsbridge, which attracted a regular clientele of local residents as well as a devoted international following who appreciated the degree of personal attention to food, service and customers. 'Turner's' set new standards for the British chef-owned restaurants which have become a feature of dining out in London.

He has become a successful television personality, appearing regularly on 'Ready Steady Cook'. He made numerous appearances on the 'Food and Drink' programme and was a judge on 'Master Chef' in the early years. He featured, as resident chef for many years on Granada's 'This Morning' eventually moving to the BBC for his own series 'Anything you can Cook'.

Turner was the Chairman of the Academy of Culinary Arts for eleven years and since 2004 President, he is a member of the UK Skills Board and has also been awarded an Honorary Professorship of Thames Valley University because of his work and commitment to The London School of Tourism, Hospitality and Leisure and catering education in general.

Profile of David Morgan-Hewitt
David Morgan-Hewitt is Managing Director of The Goring London’s oldest family owned five star deluxe hotel. He studied law and history at Durham where he graduated with a BA in 1986. After several years working in restaurants he joined The Goring as Restaurant Manager in 1990. In 1996 he was made General Manager and became Managing Director of the company in 2006.

He is a member of the Academy of Culinary Arts, Master Innholder, Fellow of the Institute of Hospitality, Livery of the Worshipful Company of Innholders, Freeman of the City of London, Honorary Catering Advisor to the Army (Honorary Major General), Past President of the Reunion des Gastronomes, Past Chairman of the St Julian Scholars, Academician of the Champagne Academy and has an honorary doctorate for the University of West London.
