The desire to both know and control the future has been a constant preoccupation of human societies. This course will examine how visions of the future have shaped the world we live in today, and what such visions tell us about what we might experience tomorrow.
29 April: The shape of futures past (Dr Justin Meggitt)
6 May: Living the dream: utopian thinking and utopian communities from Plato to the present day (Dr Justin Meggitt)
13 May: Planet of slums? Migration and urban life (Dr Alexandra Winkels)
20 May: Climate change and resource wars: what can we expect? (Dr Alexandra Winkels)
27 May: Imagined futures: spectacle and narrative (Dr Jenny Bavidge)
This course will be supported by our virtual learning environment (VLE). You will be able to download course material, contact your tutor and talk to fellow students via the web at a time and place that’s convenient to you.
