Holding Space: Taking Action

Mon 22 April

Homerton College

Discrimination and harassment take many forms, and gender-based violence is a serious and ongoing problem. Reporting such acts of violence can be very challenging for victims, and when victims do feel able to report, the justice and social services systems often fail to address their needs.

The perceptions of a lack of societal support prevent many victims from seeking help. Moreover, the limited research on the extent, forms, and impact of gender-based violence poses challenges for evidence-based policy-making and the design of prevention and intervention programs, thereby exacerbating the silence on the experiences of violence that can impact lives irrevocably.

This symposium brings together higher education researchers and academics with social service providers to rethink strategies toward eliminating gender-based violence through empowering and socially integrating survivors across higher education and society as a whole.
