Why did many people, called pilgrims, walk for months to get to a place they considered to be very special in Northern Spain, Santiago de Compostela? What sort of hardships did they face? Where did they sleep? What awaited them upon arrival? In this workshop, we will explore through images, music and texts a form of travel that started about a thousand years ago and still continues today. How can historians tell what happened a thousand years ago? What do images and texts tell us about travelling in the past? You will hear some of the stories long-ago travellers told each other. You will also be able to make a badge that pilgrims wore, and learn a song that they sang.
