Capability Sounds: A Musical Celebration of Lancelot Brown
Sun 23 October 2016
Institute of Continuing Education
A special concert to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the birth of ‘Capability’ Brown, England’s ‘Shakespeare of Gardening’. Francesca Barritt (violin), Joy Lisney (cello) and Matthew Schellhorn (piano) will perform music by Mozart, Haydn, Linley, Boyce and Cambridge-based composer Jeremy Thurlow.
Inspired by the steeples of Fen Drayton and Fenstanton merging on the horizon, Thurlow’s ‘Steeples Eclipse’ explores local landscapes, and our shaping and perception of nature in two villages where Brown lived.
Programme:
- Boyce (arr. Watts): Ode for the New Year
- Mozart: (Trio) Sonata in F major, K.13
- Linley (arr. Watts): Overture - Lyric Ode on the Witches, Fairies and Aerial Beings of Shakespeare
- Thurlow: Steeples Eclipse
- Haydn: Piano Trio in E major, Hob. XV:28
There will be an interval of 15 minutes.
Cost: £12 (£10 concessions for over 60s and under 18s)
