Humps and bumps, houses and hedges
Wed 26 February 2014 - Wed 26 March 2014
Institute of Continuing Education
Have you been puzzling over the clues in the landscape that record the activities of men and women in earlier periods? This weekly course will enable you to begin to interpret the history of the landscape from the medieval period onwards, from the buildings, fields, roads and earthworks created by earlier generations.
The course uses a combination of Google Streetview and Powerpoint presentations to take five ‘virtual’ fieldtrips to 5 different sites, within roughly 15 miles of Cambridge, each focused on a different topic within the general theme of medieval landscape. In this iteration of the course we will explore Barrington, Rampton, Eltisley, Steeple Morden and the Wilbrahams.
26 February: Barrington
5 March: Rampton
12 March: Eltisley
19 March: Steeple Morden
26 March: The Wilbrahams
This course will be supported by our virtual learning environment (VLE). You will be able to download course material, contact your tutor and talk to fellow students via the web at a time and place that’s convenient to you.
Cost: £150
