Lore was a ‘Kind’, having left Nazi Germany as child of nine on a Kindertransport for England, the only member of her immediate family to survive.
She studied at Winchester School of Arts and Crafts and Bournemouth Municipal College of Art alongside fellow painter Fred Yates. She taught at Bournemouth Municipal College of Art in the mid 1950s and at Comberton Village College in the 1970s. Her works were exhibited in the Royal Society of British Artists’ Galleries in London, and in solo shows in Oxford, Abingdon and University College (now Wolfson) Cambridge. She spent time in St. Ives with artist and sculptor Sven Berlin, and in the New Forest where she knew Augustus John; and she reviewed the work of the young David Hockney.
She worked in oils and watercolour, but also experimented with other media – monoprints, collage, tin-tack and Terylene thread - and abstract forms. Predominantly a figurative artist, she drew and painted a wide range of subjects: boats, buildings, machinery, trees, ports, animals, furniture; her primary interest was the human form, in motion or repose and, particularly, the human face, at any age.
