CU Brass Ensemble at the Painted Church

The Cambridge University Brass Ensemble (CUBE) returns to the Painted Church once again for a Sunday lunchtime recital in a varied programme for all.

The Multi-Story Orchestra

Thu 1 November 2018

Kettle's Yard House and Gallery

We are delighted to welcome the Multi-Story Orchestra back to Kettle’s Yard following their energetic performance earlier this year.

Curated by Multi-Story bassoonist Joe Qiu, this concert takes a look at some of the links between pop and minimalist music. Julius Eastman’s Stay On It from 1972, a heavy dose of semi-improvised disco-inspired minimalism, will sit alongside instrumental re-workings of Björk’s arrangements of her own songs, Mary Jane Leach’s Feu de Joie (a meditation on the sonority of the bassoon) and arrangements of François Couperin’s enigmatic 18th century keyboard pieces.

The Orchestra presents extraordinary performances in unexpected settings. From car parks to schools and festivals, they create amazing live classical music experiences performed by incredible musicians. The Orchestra was started in 2011 by composer Kate Whitley and conductor Christopher Stark.

Cost: £12 (£5 students)
