In Conversation with Dame Deborah Bronnert DCMG
Tue 27 February
Murray Edwards College
Dame Deborah Bronnert’s tenure as the United Kingdom’s ambassador to the Russian Federation began in January 2020, shortly before the COVID-19 pandemic took hold across the world and was dominated by Russia’s full scale invasion of Ukraine. Her four year posting spanned an exceptional time and saw heightened tensions between the UK and Russia.
How does a British diplomat navigate such extraordinary times, in a state assessed as the most acute nation based threat to the UK and her allies? What did Dame Deborah learn during her time in Moscow, and how does she think Vladimir Putin’s war in Ukraine will ultimately play out?
Join us for this fascinating event, in which Dame Deborah will be in conversation with Murray Edwards President Dorothy Byrne, former Head of News at Channel 4. Find out more about one of the most important posts in the Foreign Office, and the woman who came to hold it.
