MagSoc Symphony Orchestra and Chorus
Thu 30 November 2017
West Road Concert Hall
The St. Margaret’s Society of Queens’ (MagSoc) proudly presents their Michaelmas Term concert, an all-Handel programme conducted by Jack Spencer.
MagSoc Symphony Orchestra open the concert with the stirring overture to Handel’s ‘Occasional Oratorio’ and his engaging Organ Concerto in F major, nicknamed ‘The Cuckoo and the Nightingale’ for its bird-song motifs.
Whilst ‘The Cuckoo and the Nightingale’ is certainly the most popular of his organ concertos, Handel’s most famous choral work is undoubtedly his oratorio: ‘Messiah’. MagSoc Symphony Orchestra will be joined by MagSoc Chorus for a rousing rendition of Part I of this tremendous work, ending with the ‘Hallelujah’ chorus.
