CU Brass Ensemble at the Painted Church

The Cambridge University Brass Ensemble (CUBE) returns to the Painted Church once again for a Sunday lunchtime recital in a varied programme for all.

MagSoc Symphony Orchestra and Chorus

Thu 30 November 2017

West Road Concert Hall

The St. Margaret’s Society of Queens’ (MagSoc) proudly presents their Michaelmas Term concert, an all-Handel programme conducted by Jack Spencer.

MagSoc Symphony Orchestra open the concert with the stirring overture to Handel’s ‘Occasional Oratorio’ and his engaging Organ Concerto in F major, nicknamed ‘The Cuckoo and the Nightingale’ for its bird-song motifs.

Whilst ‘The Cuckoo and the Nightingale’ is certainly the most popular of his organ concertos, Handel’s most famous choral work is undoubtedly his oratorio: ‘Messiah’. MagSoc Symphony Orchestra will be joined by MagSoc Chorus for a rousing rendition of Part I of this tremendous work, ending with the ‘Hallelujah’ chorus.

Handel Overture to the Occasional Oratorio
Handel Organ Concerto no.13 in F major: 'The Cuckoo and the Nightingale'
Handel Messiah: Part I & the ‘Hallelujah’ Chorus

Cost: £12 (standard), £10 (concessions), £5 (students), and free for current students at Queens’ College Cambridge
