This weekly course at Madingley Hall provides a review of the First World War from a number of approaches: the history of the home front, the involvement of America, the international relations of the Great War, conflict archaeology and everyday life in the trenches, and the ‘first’ war poet and musician Ivor Gurney.
13 January: Conflict archaeology (Dr Gilly Carr)
20 January: The international relations of World War I (Dr Mike Sewell)
27 January: Everyday life on the home front (Dr Samantha Williams)
3 February: America and World War I (Dr Mike Sewell)
10 February: Ivor Gurney: first war poet? (Dr Kate Kennedy)
