Sun 11 November 2018
University Church
Remembrance Sunday will be marked with events across collegiate Cambridge this year, the centenary of the end of the First World War.
Service at Great St Mary's, the University Church
The Remembrance Sunday service in Great St Mary's will include an address by General The Lord Dannatt GCB CBE MC, former Chief of the General Staff. It will also be attended by a delegation from Heidelberg, the German city which has been twinned with Cambridge since soon after the Second World War.
All are warmly welcome; please arrive by 10.45am, in order to be seated before the two-minute silence.
Collegiate Cambridge events
All College Chapels will be holding Remembrance Sunday services on Sunday 11 November (times vary, please check College websites for details - links are avialable at www.cam.ac.uk/colleges).
Cambridge Royal British Legion, in association with King’s College, is marking the occasion with a special Remembrance Day service at 10am at the Cambridge War Memorial on Hills Road. The service will be transmitted live on local radio and recorded for subsequent transmission by both the BBC and ITV. The Choir of King’s College will be performing at the service and the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Stephen J Toope, will lay a wreath on behalf of the University community.
For the Clare College service, 199 unique orders of service will be printed, each telling the story of a different soldier, who either did not take up their place at Clare or left midway through or after their studies, and were killed in action.
Newnham College has digitised a 170-page handwritten book recording the work done by more than 700 Newnham women during the First World War, which will be launched at an event at the College on 5 November.
One of our students recently made a film about a Trinity College student who died just a few weeks before the end of the First World War, and you can watch it on the University of Cambridge YouTube channel at https://youtu.be/XoFboGU_eMM.
