English ballads and dances set for the plays of Shakespeare. The programme includes much-loved favourites, such as Full fathom five, Where the bee sucks and Ophelia’s Willow Song, as well as some lesser-known works, Tielman Susato’s Morisque, Thomas Simpson’s Bonny sweet Robin and the anonymous Awake! Awake! O England!, based on the first scene of Shakespeare’s Henry VI. John Dowland, Robert Johnson, John Playford, Anthony Holborne, Thomas Morley: the cream of English sixteenth-century composers, performed by the cream of today’s renaissance multi-instrumentalists and singers.
