Join us to hear Dr Mark Ungless from Imperial College London and Professor Matthew Wood from The University of Oxford. You will learn what brand new research is telling us about the nerve cells affected in Parkinson’s, and the cutting-edge discoveries which are giving us a completely new way to protect them from damage.
The symptoms of Parkinson’s are caused by the loss of nerve cells in the brain. Research by Parkinson’s UK is paving the way for the next generation of treatments that can protect these precious cells, to slow or stop the progression of Parkinson’s.
Dr Ungless will focus on our understanding of these cells. What do they do? How do they communicate? And why are they susceptible to damage in Parkinson’s?
Dr Wood will then explain how his team are harnessing cutting-edge technology to cross the physical barrier between the bloodstream and the brain. This could ultimately allow us to deliver gene therapies easily and safely, and bring us a step closer to a cure.
