Environmental diversity of Architecture
Mon 13 March 2017
Department of Chemistry
A lecture by Professor Koen Steemers BSc BArch MPhil PhD RIBA ARB, Professor of Sustainable Design, Department of Architecture, University of Cambridge.
The fifth talk in a series of lectures organised by the Cambridge Philosophical Society in the Lent Term 2017.
Abstract as follows: This presentation takes the position that the dynamic characteristics of the architectural environment are a key aspect of good design, yet one which is not well anticipated or understood. Environmental diversity is a design consideration closely related to our experience of architecture - an architecture of the senses. Based on research findings, this presentation is an antidote to the misconceptions of an ‘average’ occupant or of ‘optimum' environmental criteria, instead embracing the richness of environmental diversity.
