Andrew Crowe
Nubia - past and present
Tue 5 October 2010 - Sun 31 October 2010
Fitzwilliam Museum
Nubia is defined today as the region between Dongola, in northern Sudan, and Aswan, in southern Egypt. It is home to people whose language links them to Ancient Nubia, but who are culturally diverse from each other and from the past. In ancient times, the modern countries of Egypt and Sudan were known as the kingdoms of Kemet and Kush. This exhibition uses work by photographer Andrew Crowe to explore the cultural links between Kush and the people who identify themselves as Nubians today, to find out what is meant by the term 'Nubian' and how Nubian people define their identity. Part of Black History Month.
