Legacies of war
Wed 22 February 2012 - Wed 21 March 2012
Institute of Continuing Education
Has your family been affected by war? Did World War II or other more recent conflicts leave unhealed wounds or scars in your family which have been passed down through the generations? Have you visited battlefields, memorials or concentration camps and ever thought about the long shadow of war?
This new short course at Madingley Hall will explore the multiple legacies and controversial memories of war. We will also uncover the marginalised voices of those who have been overlooked or forgotten. We will examine how heritage professionals, historians and educators deal with the objects, sites, museums, film and general aftermath of war, giving you the skills to examine critically the legacies of war that fascinate or have affected you.
Weekly sessions (Wednesdays 19:15 - 21:15):
22 February: Legacies of war (Dr Gilly Carr)
29 February: The tangible and intangible legacies of internment and victimhood (Dr Gilly Carr)
