CUJO directed by Barry Forgie
Sun 18 February 2018
West Road Concert Hall
Get ready for a scintillating night of jazz. On 18th February, West Road Concert Hall will bear witness to big band jazz of the highest quality in the form of Cambridge University Jazz Orchestra directed by Barry Forgie. The night will feature a selection of Barry Forgie’s compositions and arrangements of the most exciting, enthralling and swinging compositions from the classic big band repertoire.
Barry Forgie has conducted the BBC Big Band (arguably the UK’s premier jazz ensemble) since 1977. This has led him to collaborate with George Shearing, Van Morrison and Cybill Shepherd amongst others. Outside of the Big Band, Barry’s activities as a jazz arranger and conductor have seen his involvement with artists such as Arturo Sandoval, Clark Terry and Cleo Laine. This wealth of experience means there are few people in Britain today more skilled in, or knowledgeable of, big band jazz.
CUJO is Cambridge University's 20-strong premiere jazz ensemble, fresh from recent performances at Pizza Express Jazz Club in Soho, and the Cambridge Jazz Festival. They have collaborated with jazz legends such as Liane Carroll, Ian Shaw, Laurence Cottle, Mark Armstrong and, most recently, Soweto Kinch. They have toured Berlin, Budapest, Prague and Istanbul, and recorded a CD in Bordeaux in 2014.
Cost: Standard £15; Students/Concessions £6
