Publication Schemes

Section 19 of the Act places a duty on every public authority to:

• adopt and maintain a scheme which relates to the publication of information by the authority and is approved by the Information Commissioner;
• to publish information in accordance with its publication scheme; and
• review its publication scheme from time to time.

The Information Commissioner may give notice to any public authority revoking approval of the scheme within a specified period or may give an expiry date for the scheme at the time of approval. Where a scheme is revoked or does not receive approval the Information Commissioner must provide a statement of the reasons for that course of action.
