BP Chevening Cambridge Scholarships for Egypt

  • in collaboration with BP and the Foreign & Commonwealth Office
  • a number of scholarships offered annually for one-year postgraduate courses of study
  • for students from Egypt

Eligibility:

  • preference will be given to candidates who intend to pursue one-year postgraduate courses of study in petroleum-related or business related subjects, but candidates proposing to study other subjects particularly relevant to Egypt's needs will also be eligible to apply.

Applicants should

  • have a proven track record and potential to rise to positions of influence
  • be national and resident of Egypt at the time of applying for an award
  • display intellectual ability and leadership potential
  • not already have received or be currently receiving financial benefit from a previous HMG-funded scholarship.
  • Any person employed by BP Egypt at the time of application is not eligible to apply for the BP Cambridge Scholarships for Egypt. However, dependants of those employed by BP Egypt are welcome to apply through the normal competitive process
  • Employees, employees' relatives (or former employees who have left employment less than 5 years before) of FCO (including FCO Posts), the British Council, the sponsor and (where applicable) the HEI will not be eligible to apply for these awards.

Conditions:

  • BP Egypt will request successful applicants to sign an 'Enrolment Agreement' that they return and reside in Egypt after the completion of their course of study, for double the amount of time they spent at Cambridge supported by a BP Cambridge Scholarship for Egypt. This agreement shall be concluded between BP Egypt and the successful candidate prior to his/her departure for Cambridge
  • candidates will, upon returning to Egypt, also undertake, according to the 'Enrolment Agreement', to work for BP or an affiliated company, nominated by BP
  • if a candidate breaches his obligation to return to Egypt or to work for BP, he/she shall refund and reimburse an amount equal to the cost of the scholarship paid by BP
  • should a candidate wish to pursue a higher degree after completing the degree obtained under the BP Cambridge Scholarship, he/she may stay outside of Egypt for the period needed for such a higher degree, provided that his/her commitment to the 'Enrolment Agreement' is observed after receiving a higher degree

Value of Scholarships:

The scholarships will normally cover

  • the University Composition Fee at the overseas rate
  • approved College fees
  • a maintenance allowance sufficient for a single student
  • a contribution towards a return economy airfare by the cheapest available route
