February 2005 Commence process of communication and discussion with Schools and Departments. Setting up of management structure to oversee the Project Commence project staff recruitment
April 2005 Internal Audit of TRAC costing model (enabling university to apply its fEC rates).
May 2005 First round of fEC University wide seminars.
June 2005 First University Estates/Indirect cost rates produced for grant period 1 Sept 2005-31 Jan 2006.
Commence training of PIs/Department staff on the new methodology and new costing software.
July 2005 Final date for the acceptance of (pre-fEC) Research Council application forms.
August 2005 Introduction of pFACT (costing system to replace RSD1A).

January 2006 Finalisation of first stage of Major Research Facility costing
February 2006 Introduction of new fEC rates for period Feb 2006 – Jan 2007. First stage of embedding fEC within RSD
April 2006 First university report detailing all research applications (fEC and non-fEC) distributed to Senior Managers and Schools.
May 2006 Second round of fEC University wide seminars held. First Research Council grants awarded under the fEC system.

October 2006 Introduction of an Annual Time Allocation Survey.
January 2007 First university report detailing all research expenditure (fEC and non-fEC) distributed to Senior Managers and Schools fEC expenditure reports to School Senior Managers.
fEC Rates updated.
Two additional Major Research Facilities introduced
February 2007 Final embedding of fEC in RSD.
March 2007 Launch of Sector wide TRAC Teaching initiative by HEFCE.
June 2007 Sector Benchmarking of TRAC Teaching.
September 2007 Introduction of TRAC Teaching Data Review Process – with Secretaries of the Schools and School Finance Managers.
October 2007 Incorporate new TRAC Teaching guidelines.
Review of fEC Project by Director of MISD and advisor to Registrary.
November 2007 Annual Review of Time Allocation Survey Results with Schools and Heads of Departments.
Incorporation of new TRAC/fEC requirements relating to facilities and technicians. fEC Project Board agree successful completion of fEC Project
January 2008 Submission of University’s TRAC Return to HEFCE
February 2008 Submission of University’s TRAC Teaching Return (interim) to HEFCE.
Implementation of new University fEC Rates Full TRAC/fEC Report to PRC
April 2008 PRC approve University’s TRAC Teaching Return (final version) TRAC Teaching Return (final) submitted to HEFCE
July 2008 Quality Assurance Validation – Audit Visit
August 2008 Quality Assurance Validation – Final Report. The University was found to be in full compliance with the TRAC/fEC guidance.
