Location, Services and Transport

New Museums Site, near the Free School Lane entrance. See separate entry for New Museums Site.

General Information

Main faculty building is the Old Cavendish building. There is a separate annexe in Mill Lane for the Department of Politics and International Studies.

Smoking

No smoking anywhere in the building.

Medical facilities

First aider in department.

Emergency procedures

No evacuation chairs or other specific evacuation facilities.

Physical Access

Entrances

Three steps up to main entrance of tower, with no handrail.

Number of floors

Three floors in total, including ground floor.

Lifts and stairs

Very old, small lift, with manual doors. Not recommended for use out of office hours. Stairs all have handrails.

Lecture theatres

All lectures take place outside the Old Cavendish Building, mostly in the Arts School or the Mill Lane Lecture Rooms.

Seminar/teaching rooms

Committee room on first floor sometimes used for teaching, with level access from lift and moveable furniture. Most other seminar and teaching rooms up or down several steps.

Library

Library in separate building nearby. All books on ground floor. Narrow aisles, but staff will help. Some work space at ground level. Upper level, with more work space and most computers, only accessed by stairs with handrail.

Computer facilities

Some computers in library, only one on ground floor. Computer room for postgraduates on second floor, with level access from lift.

Toilets

Adapted toilet in library, but this has rather narrow doors. There is a disabled toilet in the nearby Phoenix building.

Assistance dogs welcome.

Computer facilities

Currently no special hardware or software for visually impaired users.

Large print, Braille and audio

Large print information on prior request.

Library and magnification equipment

Good lighting in library. Photocopier available.

Signs and wayfinding

Signs within Faculty mostly good and clear.

Hearing Impairments

Induction loops

No induction loops currently. Induction loops in Arts School and Mill Lane, where most lectures are held.
