Location, Services and Transport

Traffic
Tennis Court Road is one-way northbound, approached from Lensfield Road. Fairly quiet in terms of traffic, but becoming increasingly busy with pedestrians and cyclists at change over times for lectures — just before and after the hour.
Services and shops
City centre. There are a few restaurants and shops, including a small post office, on Trumpington Street on the other side of the site.
Parking
Parking at the department is limited. There is one disabled bay on site, contact Reception on 01223 334176 to book this space. There are a few disabled bays on Trumpington Street, but it is advisable to park in Lion Yard multi-storey car park and walk from there if possible.
Other transport options
Citi 4 and Uni 4 bus stop on Trumpington Street. Bus station is a 15 minute walk away. Park and Ride service into the city centre.
General Information
Fairly new building, with good access throughout. Security swipe card system in place, with buttons to exit through some doors.
Smoking
No smoking anywhere in the building.
Medical facilities
First aiders and a first aid room in the building.
Emergency procedures
Evacuation chairs and fire alarm pagers available.
Physical Access
Entrances
Level access to main entrance and side entrance.
Number of floors
Four floors in total, including ground floor.
Lifts and stairs
Lift to all floors. Stairs all have continuous handrails.
Lecture theatres
First floor, with level access to back from lift. Tiered seating, with fold-down seats. Two electrically operated adjustable platforms for wheelchairs.
Seminar/teaching rooms
All teaching rooms accessible by lift.
Library
Second floor, with level access from lift. Only staffed 2–4pm during term time, with swipecard entry out of hours.
Computer facilities
Computer room on third floor, with level access from lift.
Toilets
Disabled toilet on ground floor.
Common rooms
Third floor, with level access from lift. Spacious inside, with moveable furniture.
Visual Impairments
Assistance dogs
Assistance dogs welcome in public areas, but discuss in advance if you want to take your dog into a laboratory.
Computer facilities
Currently no special hardware or software for visually impaired users.
Large print, Braille and audio
Large print information on prior request.
Library and magnification equipment
Lots of photocopiers available.
Signs and wayfinding
Very good, clear signs around the department.
