General Information
Self-funded research Institute, linked to the Department of Archaeology. See separate entry for Department of Archaeology and the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology. Spread over Courtyard and West buildings, which are close to each other and to the main Archaeology and Anthropology Faculty building.
Smoking
No smoking anywhere in the building.
Medical facilities
Several first aiders in the building. All carry pagers and phones.
Emergency procedures
Evacuation chairs fitted in both buildings.
Physical Access
Entrances
Ramped entrance to Courtyard building, through wide double doors. Level access to West building. Security keypad entry, and bell for assistance.
Number of floors
Four floors in both buildings.
Lifts and stairs
Large lifts in Courtyard and West Buildings.
Seminar/teaching rooms
Seminar rooms in both buildings either ground floor or accessible by lift. All level and spacious, with moveable furniture.
Library
Haddon library is on first floor of main faculty building. Accessible by lift, but first-time users please arrange in advance.
Computer facilities
Graduate computer room currently in West building, with level access from lift. This will shortly be moving to the basement of the Courtyard building, which has ramp and lift access.
Toilets
Disabled toilet on ground floor of Courtyard building.
Common rooms
Common room on ground floor of Courtyard building, with small kitchen and tea and coffee making facilities.
Museum
Temporary ramps at entrance. Spacious inside, and mostly level and smooth. Large lift to all three floors. See separate entry for the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology.
Other
- Temporary ramps, if needed, kept in the Courtyard building.
Visual Impairments
Assistance dogs
Assistance dogs welcome.
Computer facilities
Currently no special hardware or software for visually impaired users.
Large print, Braille and audio
Large print information on prior request.
Library and magnification equipment
Extra lights on individual desks in library. Magnifying glass and sheets available in library. Photocopier available.
Signs and wayfinding
Good, clear signs around the institute and in the museum.
Other
- Museum has very good lighting, with mostly large and clear signs and information.
- Stairs in both buildings are marked, and have continuous handrails. Touch-readable buttons in lift.

Induction loops in library and seminar rooms.
