Forvie Site, on Addenbrooke's Site.

Parking

Gravel car park outside main entrance, with six visitor bays. Call in advance to reserve a space.

General Information

Institute consists of three organisations that collaborate with one another — the University Department of Public Health and Primary Care, the Secretary of State for Health, and the Medical Research Council. Some Clinical School and postgraduate teaching, as well as regular summer schools.

Smoking

No smoking anywhere in the building or on site.

Medical facilities

Four first aiders in department. More in nearby Centre for Brain Repair, plus a defibrillator and eyewash unit. Hospital nearby.

Emergency procedures

Evacuation chairs on two of the three staircases. Recent training for fire wardens.

Physical Access

Entrances

Level access to main entrance through wide manual doors. Reception has fairly high counter. Sloped back entrance, with push-button exit, and sloped fire escape.

Number of floors

Two floors in total, including ground floor.

Lifts and stairs

Lift to upper floor. Three staircases, all with continuous handrails.

Seminar/teaching rooms

Two seminar rooms on first floor, with level access from lift. Spacious and carpeted, with moveable furniture. Small kitchens outside.

Computer facilities

Six standard PCs in smaller seminar room for training purposes. Most staff have their own office and computer.

Toilets

Two disabled toilets, one on each floor.

Common rooms

Staff room on ground floor, with a small kitchen. Chairs and padded seats with armrests, and both low and standard height tables.

Other

  • Postgraduate teaching area on ground floor, spacious and carpeted, with moveable furniture.
  • Small garden outside through sloped exit. Two picnic benches, and other furniture can be moved from staff room nearby.

Visual Impairments

Assistance dogs

Assistance dogs welcome.

Computer facilities

Currently no special hardware or software for visually impaired users. Some could be acquired if necessary.

Large print, Braille and audio

Large print information on prior request. Touch readable buttons in lift.

Library and magnification equipment

Photocopiers available.

Signs and wayfinding

Few directional signs, except to seminar rooms when a summer school is taking place. Fairly simple building based around a single long corridor on both levels.

Other

  • Stairs are all marked and have continuous handrails.
  • Lighting inside and outside building is generally good.
  • Large screens and data projectors in seminar rooms.

Induction loops

No induction loops currently.

Other

  • Most areas, except staff room, are carpeted and quiet.
  • There is no traffic noise.
