Location, Services and Transport
Old Addenbrooke's Site. See separate entry for Old Addenbrooke's Site. The building is the first on your left after turning into Tennis Court Road from Lensfield Road.
Parking
Two disabled bays, shared with other nearby buildings. One is kept locked to prevent inappropriate usage, so call in advance to reserve.
General Information
Research institute specialising in cancer and developmental biology. The building was completed in 2004, and has generally good access.
Smoking
No smoking anywhere in the building.
Medical facilities
Three first aiders. First aid room shared with Biochemistry.
Emergency procedures
Evacuation chairs fitted. Stairclimber, shared with and located in Department of Biochemistry, and which can go up or down stairs, can be used for evacuation. Trained fire wardens.
Physical Access
Entrances
Gentle zig-zag ramp, with handrail, to main entrance. Automatic entrance door. Low counter at reception.
Number of floors
Five floors in total, including basement.
Lifts and stairs
Large lift to all floors.
Seminar/teaching rooms
Seminar rooms level and spacious, with moveable furniture. Laboratories have level access from lift, but some are cramped. Standard height laboratory benches with lower desks for dry work.
Library
Library mostly online, and can be accessed via computers in IT room.
Computer facilities
Computer room with Apple Macs, proximity card entry, all accessible. Some wireless internet in tea room. Equipment to help with repetitive straing injury can be acquired and has been in the past.
Toilets
Disabled toilets in basement and on level 2.
Common rooms
Small servery for drinks and snacks in tea room, spacious and with moveable furniture. Also small kitchen with high worktop and microwave. Vending machines nearby.
Visual Impairments
Assistance dogs
Assistance dogs may not be allowed due to health and safety and contamination issues — please discuss in advance.
Computer facilities
Software or hardware to help visually impaired users could be acquired if needed.
Large print, Braille and audio
Large print information on prior request. Touch readable buttons and audio information in lift.
Library and magnification equipment
Several photocopiers available. Some labs have magnifying lights.
Signs and wayfinding
Little directional signage. All visitors are escorted round the building.
Other
- Area outside the building is lit automatically at night.
- All stairs are marked and have continuous handrails.
Hearing Impairments
Induction loops
Induction loops in tea room (sometimes used as a seminar room) and at reception.
Other
- Sensory fire pagers are available from reception.
- Some traffic noise from Tennis Court Road.
- Most offices and rooms are carpeted and softly furnished.
