Dyslexia Awareness Week 2011

Dyslexia Awareness Week is this week, 31 October to 6 November.
In recognition of Dyslexia Awareness Week this week, the University Computer Service is offering drop-in Assistive Technology sessions, where users can come and see demonstrations of software such as Inspiration (mind-mapping software), Dragon Naturally Speaking, and Read & Write Gold. These sessions will take place in the Assistive Technology room (signposted from the main entrance) at the University Computing Service on 2 and 3 November 2011, from 2.00pm to 4.30pm on each day. All University members are welcome. To register your interest, please contact Sheena Macrae, Assistive Technology Support, at sm573@cam.ac.uk.

The Disability Resource Centre Student Monthly Digest for October 2011 is now available. The digest contains events, news, job adverts and more, which we think will be of interest to disabled students. The digest is published every month on the DRC website.

The DRC's Photography Competition is closed

The DRC's Photography Competition is now closed for entries.
Those shortlisted will be notified via email on 11 March. Winners will be announced and prizes awarded at the 9th Annual Disability Lecture on 24 March.
DRC launches Photography Competition

The DRC has launched our first University-wide photography competition, entitled:
'Disability at the University of Cambridge'.
We are looking for quality images that illustrate experiences of disability at the University of Cambridge. Submitted entries may be used in the University's printed publications and online presence, as well as in external publications about the DRC and the University. Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places will be awarded at the DRC's Annual Disability Lecture on 24 March 2011.
Warning: DirectGov/Student Finance England Phishing Scam

Representatives from Student Finance England and the Student Loans Company have issued a warning concerning emails that falsely claim to come from DirectGov. A copy of this email can be viewed using the link below.
Student Finance England and the Student Loans Company caution students not to reply to these emails. Students are urged not to give out their bank details or personal information until they are certain that the request for that information is legitimate.
If you have any questions or concerns about communication regarding your funding or Disabled Students' Allowances, please contact the DRC for further guidance.
