Funding Terminology

Bursaries

Small sums to help with fieldwork, photocopying or to provide financial aid for a small part of the overall cost of your course.

Studentships/Scholarships

Usually full-cost awards which cover the University and College fees plus a maintenance allowance which will be at least the minimum required by the Student Registry.

Loans

Administered by external organizations and pay either the full or part-cost of your course.

Fees-Only Awards

Awards which cover the costs of the University Composition and College Fees but do not provide a maintenance stipend.

Hardship Awards

Discretionary awards made to help students during period of financial difficulty. The value of these award is variable and determined on a case-by-case basis.
