Funding for Students on an Existing Course
Cambridge Funding
It is important to note that most fully funded opportunities at Cambridge are only available to students about to start a new course. Once you are registered as a student, there are few full scholarships available.
Small part-cost bursaries may be available from colleges and departments for fieldwork, hardship and conferences etc. The best collated source of internal funding opportunities for Cambridge students is the CamFunds database.
PhD students who started from October 2010 who plan to carry out fieldwork whilst on 'leave to work away' from Cambridge, can apply to the University's Fieldwork Fund. Please see 'Leave to Work Away From Cambridge: University Fieldwork Funds' for more information.
If your PhD is related to Commonwealth studies, you are eligible to apply for assistance from the Smuts Memorial Fund. The Fund makes a number of awards to Cambridge graduates for costs of travel, fieldwork, or audio-visual fieldwork equipment. More information can be found on their website.

Alternative Guide to Postgraduate Funding - Charities and the Voluntary Sector

Cambridge has subscribed to the Alternative Guide to Postgraduate Funding, which all Cambridge students can download. This guide details how to find and apply to alternative sources of funding - especially charities - which make awards to current and prospective graduate students.
The Guide was written by two UK based PhD students who between them have won over £45,000 from 52 different charity awards. It contains model personal and financial statements, and over 100 links to voluntary sector funding sources. The Alternative Guide is independently published by GradFunding.
Here's what a Law applicant Daniella (from another University) had to say about the Guide:
"it's really helpful, especially by making clear what information trustees want and providing useful websites and innovative tips on how to save money. It makes everything a whole lot less confusing!"
You will need your University Raven password to download the guide below.
