Cambridge Home and EU Scholarship Scheme (CHESS)
MPhil Awards
Awards are made for 1 year only for MPhil study. Bursaries are valued at half cost (approximately £8,000, depending on financial liability) for UK (and UK resident) students. Bursaries are valued at fees-only for EU resident students (approximately £5,500).
Eligibility
- You must have applied for admission by the relevant deadline.
- You must be following a 'research training' Masters course
- You must intend to continue to a PhD at Cambridge
- Applicants must be registered as liable to pay the University Composition Fee at the "Home" or "EU" rate. Students eligible for UK Research Council funding must have applied for such funding or be able to explain why an application to the Research Councils has not been made (e.g. no quota studentships available to the student's department). It is a condition that a successful CHESS student must accept Research Council funding if it is subsequently offered.
- Full-time and part-time students are eligible.
- Any subject area is eligible.
The scheme does not provide additional funding for research expenses, transferable skills training or fieldwork costs. It is not possible to defer awards.
Application Process
There is no application form for this funding; as long as you have applied for admission/continuation by the deadline you will automatically be considered for this competition.
