CRB Checks - Graduate applicants
If you intend to conduct research as part of you course which involves regular and unsupervised contact with children or vulnerable adults, you are required to obtain a check from the Criminal Records Bureau. Enhanced Disclosure is the level of check required.
If you firmly accept a conditional or unconditional offer of a place on such a course you will be issued by Student Records and Administration with:
- An Enhanced Disclosure CRB Application Form
- Information sheet containing links to
- University guidance for the CRB process
- CRB e-guide about how to fill in the application form
- CRB information about what ID documents you need to provide with your CRB application
For further information and guidance please see the Frequently Asked Questions guide.
A condition of your offer of a place at the University of Cambridge is subject to receipt of an Enhanced CRB check. All conditions of your offer should be met before the start of term. The current fee for seeking the disclosure is £44.
Research Passports
As a Graduate Student, admitted via the Board of Graduate Studies, you will need a Research Passport if you are proposing to carry out research in the NHS and you have no contractual relationship with the NHS. If you are unsure whether you require a Research Passport please contact the Research and Development office at the Trust where you intend to carry out your research for clarification. Further details on applying for a Research Passport can be found on the Student Registry web site.
When applying for a Research Passport you will also need to have an Enhanced Disclosure CRB certificate or equivalent. To apply for CRB clearance please email student.records@admin.cam.ac.uk with your name, college and address details and an application form will be sent to you. The current fee for seeking the disclosure is £44.
In addition, a Protection of Children Act (PoCA) check will be required if the research will enable you to have regular contact with children in the course of normal research activities. This check is done as part of the CRB application process.
