Extended Self-Service (ESS)
Extended Self-Service (ESS) allows alumni to access their Self-Service account in CamSIS.
It is available to any previous student who matriculated after Michaelmas term 1980 and access allows students to update contact details, view exam grades, view a copy of an unofficial transcript and apply for graduation*.
*Graduation functionality is under the control of each college as to if, and for which ceremonies, it can be used.
It is only possible to access one view of CamSIS Self-Service at any one time. This will be EITHER standard Self-Service, OR Extended Self-Service OR Graduate Applicant Self-Service.
Frequently Asked Questions
What should I do if I have just graduated and am unable to access Extended Self-Service?
If you have recently graduated it may take up to a week for your records to be closed down. Therefore you may still have access to CamSIS and will be able to view your details in standard Self-Service. After this point, you will be able to register for ESS.
What should I do if I am a graduate student and have submitted by work for approval but I can't register for ESS?
Your current programme of study will only be closed once the degree approval has been applied to your record. Until then, you should continue to access standard Self-Service.
What if I have forgotten my login details?
You will need to contact Student Registry, giving your USN/CRSid, name and date of birth, by emailing student.registry@admin.cam.ac.uk or by telephone on 01223 766302 to confirm your login details.
What should I do if I am unable to login and the error message 'Unable to verify details' appears?
This may mean that details that are being used to register do not match what is held in CamSIS. You will need to contact Student Registry, giving your USN/CRSid, name and date of birth, by emailing student.registry@admin.cam.ac.uk or by telephone on 01223 766302.
What should I do if I am having problems launching ESS and the message 'not authorised for this page' appears?
You need to clear down your browser history, including cookies. This can be accessed from most browsers via the Tools link on the toolbar.
What if I can’t access CamSIS via the browser Internet Explorer 10?
If you are experiencing problems with Internet Explorer 10, please use an alternative browser or use Internet Explorer 10 in 'Compatibility View'. Please ask your local IT support staff for guidance or follow the steps outlined on the Microsoft web site. We apologise for any inconvenience caused. Should you require further assistance, please contact the Helpdesk.
What if I have just completed my undergraduate course and have applied for graduate study, but can't access ESS to view my exam results?
It is only possible to have access to one view of Self-Service, and in these cases it is the Graduate Applicant Self-Service.
What if I have been approved for my graduate study and my Graduate Applicant Self-Service is no longer needed, but I need ESS to view my undergraduate exam results
Your Graduate Applicant Self-Service will not be inactivated until the start of your course (1 October, 1 January or 1 April depending on a Michaelmas, Lent or Easter term), at which point the standard Self-Service will be available. ESS will not be available during either of these times.
What should I do if I am a medic or vet moving from pre-clinical to clinical study and have lost access to standard Self-Service?
You can register for ESS for the long vacation between the 2 courses. Once your clinical course starts (1 October) you will revert back to standard Self-Service. Once you have completed the clinical course, your ESS account will be available, accessed by the original login details.
