Sport & Fitness
For many people sport at Cambridge is empitomised by the annual Boat Race against Oxford, but there is more to Cambridge sport than rowing. There are countless opportunities to join a Univeristy sport club. In addition, most colleges have their own sports teams and many have excellent facilities. Friendly, but fierce, competition is guaranteed through the intercollegiate 'Cuppers'.
Do you have ambitions to follow in the footsteps of Stephen Fry, John Cleese, Emma Thompson, Tilda Swinton and Tom Hiddlestone, or are you just interested in theatre? There are many opportunities to display your dramatic talents, be they in acting, directing, writing or producing. The ADC is the biggest student theatre, but there are many student drama clubs and societies in the University who perform in other venues. Auditions are usually very well advertised and hard to miss.
There are an amazing number of student music socieities, choirs and orchestras to join, or just to listen to. The biggest society, but most certainly not the only one, is the Cambridge University Music Society (CUMS); nearly every college has its own musical society, and if you cannot find one that suits your taste, why not create one whilst you are in Cambridge?
As you may be beginning to suspect, there are too many societies to list here, so instead we have included a link so that you can find the societies that suit you. If, however, your preferred society does not exist, instructions on how to register a new society and obtain the facilities to run it can be accessed from the link below.
The Office of External Affairs and Communications' Public Engagement team work closely with voluntary organisations, support public engagement, community and outreach work. If you, or a society that you belong to, would like to get involved with volunteer work, further information can be obtained from the Public Engagement team's website.
For a comprehensive guide to events being held at the University and the colleges, check the University's What's On web pages.
CUSU also have pages dedicated to events listings, including club nights, music performances, recruitment talks and society meetings.
