Graces

Graces to be submitted to the Regent House at a Congregation on 23 February 2019

The Council has sanctioned the submission of the following Graces to the Regent House at a Congregation to be held on Saturday, 23 February 2019.1

1. That the title of the degree of Doctor of Law honoris causa be conferred under Statute A II 14 upon Doreen Delceita, Baroness Lawrence of Clarendon, O.B.E., Founder and Life President of the Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust, Chancellor of De Montfort University, champion for racial justice, police reform and strengthened community relations.

2. That the title of the degree of Doctor of Science honoris causa be conferred under Statute A II 14 upon Dame Rosemary Jean Cramp, D.B.E., F.S.A., F.B.A., Professor of Archaeology Emerita, University of Durham, sometime President of the Society of Antiquaries, the Council for British Archaeology and the Society for Church Archaeology, archaeologist.

3. That the title of the degree of Doctor of Science honoris causa be conferred under Statute A II 14 upon Dame Valerie Jane Goodall, D.B.E., Ph.D., Hon. F.R.A.I., of Newnham College, founder of the Jane Goodall Institute and Scientific Director of the Gombe Wildlife Research Institute, Tanzania, United Nations Messenger of Peace, primatologist and anthropologist.

4. That the title of the degree of Doctor of Science honoris causa be conferred under Statute A II 14 upon Professor Michael Levitt, Ph.D., F.R.S., Honorary Fellow of Peterhouse and of Gonville and Caius College, Robert W. and Vivian K. Cahill Professor of Cancer Research in the School of Medicine and sometime Professor of Structural Biology, Stanford University, Nobel Laureate, structural biologist and biophysicist.

5. That the title of the degree of Doctor of Letters honoris causa be conferred under Statute A II 14 upon Sir David Frank Adjaye, O.B.E., R.A., sometime external examiner in the Department of Architecture, Founder and Principal, Adjaye Associates, architect.

6. That the title of the degree of Doctor of Letters honoris causa be conferred under Statute A II 14 upon Professor Sir Angus Stewart Deaton, M.A., Ph.D., F.B.A., Honorary Fellow of Fitzwilliam College, Presidential Professor of Economics, University of Southern California, Senior Scholar and Dwight D. Eisenhower Professor of Economics and International Affairs Emeritus, Princeton University, Nobel Laureate, economist.

7. That the title of the degree of Doctor of Letters honoris causa be conferred under Statute A II 14 upon Professor Marilynne Robinson, sometime Hulsean Lecturer and Preacher, F. Wendell Miller Professor of English and Creative Writing Emerita, University of Iowa, writer.

8. That the title of the degree of Doctor of Music honoris causa be conferred under Statute A II 14 upon Sir Mark Philip Elder, C.H., C.B.E., M.A., Honorary Fellow of Corpus Christi College, Music Director of the Hallé Orchestra, conductor.
