Discussion on Tuesday, 17 July 2018

The Vice-Chancellor invites those qualified under the regulations for Discussions (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 105) to attend a Discussion in the Senate-House, on Tuesday, 17 July 2018 at 2 p.m., for the discussion of:

1.Second-stage Report of the Council, dated 29 June 2018, on the alteration and refurbishment of two buildings on the Old Addenbrooke’s site (Reporter, 6513, 2017–18, p. 763).

2.Report of the Council, dated 4 July 2018, on a new Crop Science Building and associated facilities (Reporter, 6513, 2017–18, p. 765).

Grace 1 of 27 June 2018 (Faculty membership criterion): Amendment

The Vice-Chancellor gives notice that he has received a proposal for the amendment of Grace 1 of 27 June 2018 (Reporter, 6512, 2017–18, p. 737), signed by 54 members of the Regent House as noted in the Annex below. A ballot has already been called on this Grace (Reporter, 6512, 2017–18, p. 728).

The Grace at present reads as follows:

1. That, with effect from the promulgation of the Roll of the Regent House on 6 November 2019, in the Ordinance on membership of the Regent House under Statute A III 11(e) (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 1041), the text 'provided that no person shall qualify for membership in categories (i), (iii), or (iv) unless he or she is also a member of a Faculty, or holds an appointment listed in those categories in a Department or other University institution which is independent of a Faculty' be deleted.

The amendment proposed is as follows:

That the word 'deleted' be replaced by

replaced by the following text
'provided that no person shall qualify for membership in category (iii), unless he or she has held an appointment listed in that category, or any other role qualifying that person for membership, for a total period of at least three years continuously prior to the date of promulgation of the Roll.'

And that the words 'Research Associate' be removed from category (i) and the words ‘Research Associates and’ be inserted at the start of category (iii).

The Council will consider the proposed amendment at its meeting on 16 July 2018.

Amending Statutes for Magdalene College

9 July 2018

The Vice-Chancellor begs leave to refer to his Notice of 7 June 2018 (Reporter, 6510, 2017–18, p. 690), concerning proposed amending Statutes for Magdalene College. He hereby gives notice that in the opinion of the Council the proposed Statutes make no alteration of any Statute which affects the University, and do not require the consent of the University; that the interests of the University are not prejudiced by them, and that the Council has resolved to take no action upon them, provided that the Council will wish to reconsider the proposed Statutes if they have not been submitted to the Privy Council by 9 July 2019.
