Graces

Graces submitted to the Regent House on 26 July 2017

The Council submits the following Graces to the Regent House. These Graces, unless they are withdrawn or a ballot is requested in accordance with the regulations for Graces of the Regent House (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 103) will be deemed to have been approved at 4 p.m. on Friday, 4 August 2017.

1. That on the nomination of the Council, Dr Rosamund Ellen Thornton, of Emmanuel College, be reappointed University Advocate for one year from 1 October 2017.

2. That on the nomination of the Council, Dr Jillaine Karen Seymour, of Sidney Sussex College, be reappointed Deputy University Advocate for one year from 1 October 2017.

3. That the recommendations in paragraph 12 of the First-stage Report of the Council, dated 26 June 2017, on the construction of a new Shared Facilities Hub building in West Cambridge (Reporter, 6471, 2016–17, p. 695) be approved.1

4. That Regulation 6 of the General Regulations for Discipline (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 191) be amended so as to read:2

6. (a) No member of the University shall engage in the harassment of:

(i)a member, officer, or employee of the University or a College; or

(ii)any other person where the harassment takes place either within the Precincts of the University or in the course of a University or College activity.

(b)  Harassment shall include single or repeated incidents involving unwanted and unwarranted conduct towards another person which is reasonably likely to have the effect of (i) violating that other’s dignity or (ii) creating an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating, or offensive environment for that other.

  • 2The Council, on the recommendation of the General Board, is proposing amendments to the regulation concerning harassment in order to clarify its application. Examples of University or College activity in the course of which harassment might occur outside the University Precincts include activities organized by University or College institutions, societies, and sports clubs.
