Graces

Graces submitted to the Regent House on 9 December 2015

The Council submits the following Graces to the Regent House. These Graces, unless they are withdrawn or a ballot is requested in accordance with the regulations for Graces of the Regent House (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 107), will be deemed to have been approved at 4 p.m. on Friday, 18 December 2015.

1. That Regulations 3 and 5 of the regulations for the Walston Studentship (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 959) be amended so as to read:1

3. The Studentship shall be open to any person who is or is about to be registered as a Graduate Student in the University.

5. The Faculty Board shall determine the arrangements for election to the Studentship.

2. That Regulations 3 and 7 of the regulations for the Frank Smart Studentship in Botany (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 923) be amended so as to read:2

3. There shall be eligible for the Studentship

(a)graduates of the University, provided that not more than eighteen complete terms have elapsed after their first term of residence;

(b)Graduate Students, not being graduates of the University, provided that not more than twelve complete terms have elapsed after their first term of actual residence.

7. The Studentship shall be tenable for one, two, or three years, as shall be determined by the Electors; a student elected for one, two, or three years may be re-elected, subject to a maximum tenure of four years in total. The Electors shall have power to terminate the tenure of a Student if they are not satisfied with the Student’s progress in research.

  • 1The General Board, on the recommendation of the Faculty Board of Classics, propose amendments to enable applicants for study as Graduate Students in the University to be considered for election to the Studentship and to remove detailed provisions concerning the arrangements for the election. 


  • 2The General Board, on the recommendation of the Managers of the Fund, propose these changes to enable the Studentship to be extended for a maximum of four years, instead of three.
