Notice of a Discussion on Tuesday, 17 March 2015

The Vice-Chancellor invites those qualified under the regulations for Discussions (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 111) to attend a Discussion in the Senate-House, on Tuesday, 17 March 2015, at 2 p.m. for the discussion of:

1. Report of the Council, dated 27 February 2015, on an Algal Innovation Centre (Reporter, 6378, 2014–15, p. 416).

Notice of benefactions

9 March 2015

The Vice-Chancellor gives notice that he has accepted with gratitude the following benefactions, of which both the capital and the income may be used:

(i)a benefaction from the Sackler Trust to be applied towards the costs of gallery refurbishment at Kettle’s Yard (see Reporter, 6359, 2014–15, p. 41, approved by Grace 1 of 5 November 2014), in recognition of which Gallery 1 will be named the Sackler Gallery;

(ii)a bequest of £176,163 from the late Mr John Anthony Blindell to be used to support retinal research, in particular research investigating Stickler syndrome, in the Department of Pathology;

(iii)a benefaction in the region of £147,000 from the Dawes Trust to support two Ph.D. students at the Institute of Criminology, payable over four years, to cover maintenance grants and contributions towards tuition fees and travel and research costs;

(iv)a philanthropic grant of £116,000 from the Sutton Trust to support the University of Cambridge Sutton Scholars programme in 2014–15 and 2015–16, to be partially matched on a 2:1 basis by the University over four years;

(v)a benefaction of £20,000 from Andreas von Hirsch, Emeritus Honorary Professor of Penal Theory and Penal Law in the Institute of Criminology, to support the Institute’s Centre for Penal Theory and Penal Ethics.
